While most vehicles aim for speed at the Nürburgring, this microcar from the French manufacturer Ligier had a different goal in mind.

The JS50 is a diesel-powered quadricycle that was driven by automotive journalists Nicolas Meunier and Martin Coulomb on an official lap at the Nürburgring.

In its most powerful trim, the little car, which is in the same category as vehicles like the Citroën Ami or the Fiat Topolino, produces 8 horsepower and has a top speed of 45 km/h.

Due to these limitations, the JS50 took over 28 minutes to complete an official lap at the Nürburgring, breaking the previous “slowest lap” record held by the Trabant P50, which took more than 16 minutes to complete the lap in 1990.

For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG One still holds the record for the fastest lap by a production (road-legal) car, with 6 minutes and 29.1 seconds completed in September 2024.

With that in mind, the JS50 was equipped with what Ligier calls the “ultimate racing experience” package for the challenge, featuring decals that enhance power and a faster body kit.

While Ligier jokingly said the lap time “hinted at [its] glorious Formula 1 history,” the company appears to be seriously considering bringing this kit to market after the successful run.
